WWII Literature Circle

As you are reading, you will be using your sticky notes to track your thinking.

The thinking on these sticky notes are what you will be bringing to your book club discussions. You must bring a MINIMUM of 3 new sticky notes to discuss from each chunk of the book on the reading schedule.

Make sure that you aren't just using your sticky notes to mark pages. They need to include YOUR THINKING too.

We wrote a thing!

 As many of you saw during our student-led conferences, we've been hard at work at writing poems inspired by George Ella Lyon's, I am from poem.

We started by immersing ourselves in the genre by analyzing mentor texts. Once we had a good idea of what a quality poem looked like, we started the journey of writing one together. We call this a shared-write.

Step one was to brainstorm all of our ideas using a graphic organizer.

Next, we drafted a poem as a class.

Next, we used immersive reader to help us revise our text.  This feature in Word allows us to isolate adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs. By doing this, we could easily strengthen our word choice and see where we needed to more descriptive and precise language.

Finally, we made our changes in Word and edited our text for errors by using spell check and re-reading our writing aloud. Below is the published copy of our shared write.

Students were then ready to begin writing their own poems independently. If you have a moment, check out your kiddos poem in Teams. Their poems are AMAZING and I shed more than a few tears reading them.
